Smooshers Masquerade Ball

Fall is my favorite time of year. The beautiful golds, oranges and bronze tones make me think of all the wonderful masks that the Polymer Clay Smooshers on Art Fire create for the Masquerade Clay Ball. The ball starts Oct. 1st and will be featuring masks either made with polymer clay or has polymer clay incorporated into the design. Here are some of last years designs by our amazingly talented smooshers.

In August of 2008 I started my first online business on Etsy. I had no idea what I was getting myself into or what it would take to make it work! My thinking was "If I like what I make other people will too so this should be easy!" Since then I have learned it is not easy!

Online selling has opened up a whole new world that I did not know existed! I had no clue how many artists and craft people were in the virtual world creating all these communities. There are ning sites, fan pages, forums, and even a radio station committed to indie artists of all kinds! Blockheadradio.com

Every site offers something different for it's sellers and buyers, but for me the most important thing is community. I want to know that I am an important part of the system that is in place that I call my online home. If I don't get that, there is no need for me to stay.

I'm happy to say I have found that place at artfire.com. The Administration there has set a respectful tone for us as sellers there. That same tone can be found in the forums and this allows us to get to know each other not only as artists but allows an atmosphere where friendships are born.

Friendship has been the key to my success at ArtFire. Just like in our own communities where we live, to be successful and have good word of mouth spread about you, you have to build relationships and trust before people will buy from you. You get to know them as people and not just other sellers or buyers. While this may only be one aspect of online selling it has been the one that has worked best for me!

ArtFire Rocks With the New SEO Guides!

If any of you have been keeping up with all the trauma Etsy has caused to people's shops there you will know it all has to do with SEO's. SEO's= search engine optimizers.
This is how you are found in the huge virtual world we all live, work, sell, network and socialize.
Artfire has introduced us to the new team that is working hard so our shops come out on top every time, driving more traffic to our individual shops and to ArtFire as a whole.
They have given us our first guide to help walk us through this process. Most of us are not techie so these guides they give us will be very valuable! They also have told us if we have any questions to email them or start a thread in the "Help" section of the forums. I can tell you first hand they are more than willing to help! I sent Caleb and email and he responded very fast!
As far as making changes to your listings, I was told it would be best until the other guides came out so I don't have to keep changing them.

So if you are tired of Etsy using and abusing you as a customer of theirs, Come on over to ArtFire where you are free to be you! Customizable shops, widgets, slide shows, live video feed, rapid cart for your your other sites, and customers can buy without signing up for an account. That's just to name a few things!

Art In Progress

My partner in crime, Delinda, and I get together a few times a week to get the creative juices flowing. Put on some great vinyl records, light some incense, turn on the lava lamp, make sure we have plenty of clove cigs and get to work. We have very much the same personality but different drawing styles. Delinda is better trained than I am and I can learn a lot from her! We love doing what we do together so much we find ourselves drawing for 12 hours at a time and not even realizing it!
The last pic is Delinda in the upstairs art room, the rest are works of art in progress.

Poster Contest!

Hey everybody! My friend Delinda (she is the "DeDa" part of ladedacreations) have entered a poster contest on the Bonnaroo website. Bonnaroo is a music festival held in Tenn. every summer that has thousands of people there for 3 days. We would love for you to go to the site and register so you can vote for us. Just follow the link I put here and register. If you have a hard time finding the posters after that you can use their search on their site on the left in green near the bottom and type in 2009 roo design contest LadeROOda and it will take you to our poster. Be sure to give us 5 stars!

Ok, some people are having trouble with the site so try these steps.

Here we go, I went through from begining to end so try it this way...

1)Go to main page and click on log in (if you've already registered)

2)log in

3)click on the link that says "my page" it's in the top right in gray under the words "Watch Look Listen"

4)Find the search button in the green space on the left click it.

5)uncheck all the boxes except photo then type in 2009 roo design contest

6)This should bring you to the posters. Click on ours and click on the last star and make sure they all light up so it will give us 5 stars.

7)I'm crossing my fingures that it doesn't keep giving people problems!!

My First Blog

This is my first blog so I don't know how great it will be! I'm having my coffee letting my brain wake up and decided I would finally try this out. Yesterday was a crazy day for my favorite handmade community. Artfire.com was raked over the coals about some past issues, but I would like to say that I have a great time there and love the people and the atmosphere.
There are so many great shops there and I would like to show you some of them.
3zArt has a shop that carries the coolest light switch plates, and mouse pads! If you want to give your home some color you have to stop by her shop! She has a style for every taste!
